Alexander McBride papers 1856-1904.

Papers consist of a brief autobiographical sketch of the military service of Alexander McBride, 1839-1854, especially his duties at the Allegheny Arsenal. McBride was an armorer and then a master laboratorian until 1865. Two notebooks containing data on ordnance material and original designs and formulas for fireworks are also contained in the papers.

Alexander McBride enlisted in 1834 at New York. He was stationed at Fort Snelling, Detroit and Florida then transferred to the Allegheny Arsenal. He remained in Pittsburgh until his death in 1910.
